For Families

In times of tragedy, the IAFF Foundation provides comprehensive, direct support to IAFF members and their families.

Scholarships

The W. H. “Howie” McClennan scholarship provides financial assistance for children of IAFF members killed in the line of duty so that they can pursue higher education.

Disaster Relief

The IAFF Foundation provides immediate financial assistance to help IAFF members and their families impacted by disaster. Disaster Relief funds are available to IAFF members who are displaced from their homes as the result of a natural disaster, including floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and other events.

Disaster Relief

Eligibility

  • Must be a current IAFF member at the time the disaster occurred.
  • Members are eligible for assistance only if their home is damaged and they are displaced because of the disaster.
  • Members must reside in the area in which the disaster occurred.
  • The member’s eligibility is based solely on need as determined by a majority of the trustees.

Burn Injury Assistance

Properly treating and recovering from burn injuries can create financial hardship. When an IAFF member or a member of their immediate family suffers a burn injury requiring admission to a burn center, assistance may be awarded for temporary emergency expenses (e.g., immediate travel, housing, food, medical supplies, services, and other assistance as deemed necessary).

Burn Injury Assistance

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a current IAFF member at the time the burn injury occurred.
  • The burn injury must have required admission to a burn center.
  • The burn injury must have occurred within 14 days of submitting the application.

Application and Approval Process

Applications for assistance should be verified and forwarded to the IAFF District Vice President by the Local President. The District Vice President should then submit the application to the Chair of the Foundation for final approval.

All applications for burn injury assistance must be submitted by the Local President within 14 days from the date of the burn injury using this form.
